Pregnant women and couples on low incomes can apply to the Federal Foundation for Mother and Child (Bundesstiftung Mutter und Kind) for a one-off financial grant to cover baby essentials, maternity wear and furniture, up until the birth. The application is made in collaboration with a counselling centre.
This one-off grant is not considered income and is not deducted from ongoing benefits (for example, from the JobCenter).
The current income limits (gross/ brutto) are as follows:
- 2533.50 euros for single people
- 3661.00 euros for a couple without children
The income limit increases by the following amount for each child living in the household:
- 0–5 years: by 892.50 euros
- 6–13 years: by 975 euros
- 14–17 years: by 1177.50 euros
- from 18 years: by 1127.50 euros
